Thank You for Your Support and Happy Holidays!

Dear Parents and Caregivers, I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your continued support of your child's Chinese learning. Over the past few weeks, we have concluded our unit on How the World Works. Through the stories "如果我是建筑设计师“ (If I Built a House) and ”如果我是学校设计师“ (If I Built a School), the children explored various creative design ideas. Inspired by these narratives, they applied their knowledge of shapes to design their own unique houses and schools, showcasing their imagination and creativity. With Christmas approaching, we have embraced the festive spirit. Through the stories "大卫,圣诞节到啦“ (It's Christmas, David) we learned important vocabulary related to this special celebration, including Santa (圣诞老人), Christmas tree (圣诞树), present (礼物), and bells (铃). The children have also been busy crafting paper straw Christmas trees which have certainly added to the festive fun in our classroom. During the Chinese assembly, we read the story...

Dear Gecko Class Families , Tomorrow, Tuesday (10 Dec) will be our last day at school, and it’s a dress casual day . Feel free to dress festively as we get ready to celebrate the Christmas season! On  Wednesday (11 Dec) , we’ll be heading out to the beach for a fun-filled day of sandcastle building and sculpting, and we’d love for you to join us! It will be a great chance to connect and enjoy some creative outdoor fun. Below is the schedule for the day. All activities are optional, so feel free to participate in whatever way feels comfortable. The weather is expected to be cloudy with temperatures between 20-24°C —perfect weather, not too hot or too cold!  If you’d like to take part in the sandcastle competition, please bring along any tools for building, as well as mats and snacks if you’d like to enjoy a picnic on the beach. We also watched a fun video during assembly to get the children excited and ready for our sandcastle competition—check it out  here ! The kids a...

We are Scientists!

Dear Gecko Class Families,  Over the past few weeks, our Gecko classroom has been bursting with creativity and discovery! We’ve been busy working on exciting projects that have fostered the children's critical and creative thinking. Building and Testing Boat Designs Inspired by the story ' Iggy Peck, Architect' , the children explored the concept of designing boats to transport the school children back to the island after the bridge collapsed (follow on from our last blog post). In small groups, they crafted boats using various materials such as LEGO, tin foil, and paper. The children were encouraged to design their boats before making them and testing them out in the water, encouraging reflection on their choices. They pondered questions like, "What makes this material good for a boat?" Why did my boat sink/float?" and "What materials could we try next time?" The children experimented by adding rocks and figures to their boats, observing what cause...
