Moving on to Primary!

Image
In our recent sessions, we explored the captivating world of Chinese painting by introducing essential tools and basic techniques of calligraphy. During circle time, we engaged the children with tutorial videos that showcased the elegant art of painting animals and bamboo. This visual exploration not only captivated their attention but also served as inspiration for their own artistic expressions. After the video presentations, the children had the opportunity to unleash their creativity through painting. We were truly impressed by their imaginative interpretations and the unique styles they brought to their artwork. In addition to our artistic endeavors, we aimed to prepare the children for the transition to primary school. To facilitate this, we read a delightful story titled "My School" (我的学校), providing insights into what they can expect in a primary school setting. We also looked at pictures of different ESF school campuses and discussed which schools the children will...

The Final Act: Creativity, Courage, and Countdown to Year 1

Image
Dear Gecko Class Families, Can you believe we’re in the final stretch of K2? It’s hard to imagine that our year together is nearly at an end—but we’re making every moment count as we wrap up our Unit of Inquiry: How We Express Ourselves . The classroom has been buzzing with creativity, movement, and expression in so many exciting forms! Mission: Impossible? Not for Geckos! This week, the Geckos stepped into the world of spies and secret missions! In a thrilling gross motor challenge, the children had to sneak, crawl, and dodge their way through a maze of red laser strings—just like real secret agents. But the mission didn’t stop there... Scattered throughout the lasers were hidden numbers attached to pegs. The children had to carefully collect them and then work as a team to line them up in the correct order —all before the timer ran out! It wasn’t easy, but Gecko Class showed amazing persistence and teamwork. They tried again and again, adjusted their strategies, and finally cracked t...

Exciting Learning Experiences

Image
Dear Parents and Caregivers, I am pleased to share that our students have had a fruitful learning experience over the past few weeks. We began by exploring feelings and emotions while delving into the art of ink painting. Through the story "我有一盏小灯笼" (I Have a Little Lantern), children learned how to cope with fear and express gratitude to those who support us in times of need.  The ink painting style of the illustrations allowed them to experiment with adjusting ink and water to create beautiful ink flow paintings. As we approach the Dragon Boat Festival, we explored the festival through the story "小粽子,小粽子" (Little Sticky Rice Dumpling) during our Chinese Assembly. The children learned about various types of sticky rice dumplings and enjoyed a lively discussion about their favorite flavors. We then deepened our understanding of the traditional festival "端午节" (Dragon Boat Festival) through the story "晶晶划龙舟" (Jingjing's Rowing on the Dragon Boa...

Expressing Ourselves Like Pirates!

Image
Dear Gecko Class Families, Ahoy, mateys! We’ve been sailing the high seas of imagination these past weeks as we dive deeper into our Unit of Inquiry: How We Express Ourselves. It’s been all about pirates—bold, brave, and bursting with creativity! Building Our Pirate Ship To begin our adventure, the children transformed into pirates and worked collaboratively to build a life-size pirate ship using Makedo tools and recycled materials. This hands-on construction challenged their fine motor skills, encouraged problem-solving, and provided a meaningful opportunity to negotiate space and share materials with their crew. Just like real pirates, they had to work as a team to stay afloat! Eye Patches, Binoculars, and Maps No pirate is complete without the proper gear! The children designed eye patches, crafted binoculars, and created treasure maps that led to mysterious islands and magical beasts. These creations were more than just accessories—they were gateways into storytelling. Each artifa...
