The Final Act: Creativity, Courage, and Countdown to Year 1
Dear Gecko Class Families,
Can you believe we’re in the final stretch of K2? It’s hard to imagine that our year together is nearly at an end—but we’re making every moment count as we wrap up our Unit of Inquiry: How We Express Ourselves. The classroom has been buzzing with creativity, movement, and expression in so many exciting forms!
Mission: Impossible? Not for Geckos!
This week, the Geckos stepped into the world of spies and secret missions! In a thrilling gross motor challenge, the children had to sneak, crawl, and dodge their way through a maze of red laser strings—just like real secret agents. But the mission didn’t stop there...
Scattered throughout the lasers were hidden numbers attached to pegs. The children had to carefully collect them and then work as a team to line them up in the correct order—all before the timer ran out!
It wasn’t easy, but Gecko Class showed amazing persistence and teamwork. They tried again and again, adjusted their strategies, and finally cracked the code. Mission accomplished!
As we prepare for the transition to big school, we’ve been practicing our addition skills—
and the confidence is soaring. There’s been no shortage of "Easy peasy!" around the room as the children combine numbers, explain their thinking, and cheer each other on. With this level of enthusiasm and understanding, we think they’re more than ready for Year 1!
What better way to express ourselves than on stage? We’ve set up our very own classroom theater, and the children have become actors, actresses, singers, dancers, and storytellers. One highlight has been acting out Goldilocks and the Three Bears, complete with imaginary stairs and deep bear voices!
Behind the scenes, the teamwork continues—children helping each other with costumes, applying makeup, and offering words of encouragement. The kindness and care they show each other is just as beautiful as the performances themselves.
Leading Like a Grown-Up!
This week, we asked the children what they’d like to be when they grow up—and guess what? A lot of them said they want to be teachers! Inspired by this, they took the initiative to lead small group activities. From Chinese Kung Fu and origami to drawing sunflowers and performing Chinese dance, they had to plan their session and gather the materials they needed.
It’s been incredible watching them step into leadership roles, share their passions, and guide their friends. The creativity and confidence they’re building will serve them well in all the adventures ahead.
Celebration of Learning
Our Celebration of Learning is just around the corner, and the children have been practicing with focus and excitement. We can’t wait to share it with you!
With just two more weeks of school, we’re holding onto every moment and cheering on these amazing little learners as they finish their K2 journey with creativity, courage, and a whole lot of heart.
Hope to see you all on Friday!
Warmly,
Penney π΅️♂️π✨
