Our Creativity Journey Continues!
Dear Gecko Class Families,
What an imaginative and exciting few weeks we've had in Term 3 so far! Our Unit of Inquiry, How We Express Ourselves, is bursting with creativity, play, and exploration.
Blast Off into Imagination!
We launched into imaginative thinking with the book Not a Box—a story that shows how one simple object can become anything with a little imagination. Inspired by the story, the children created their own "Not a Box" drawings, transforming boxes into everything from race cars to castles to magical creatures. It was a joyful reminder of how powerful creative expression can be in helping children share ideas and feelings beyond words.
Gecko Fashion Show!
In case you missed it—we hosted a fabulous Fashion Show! The children absolutely loved dressing up, strutting their stuff on the runway, and striking poses like pros. It was a fantastic way for them to build confidence, celebrate individuality, and have lots of fun together.
Action-Packed Role Play
Our dramatic play corner has been buzzing with energy! The children chose exciting roles like police officers, firefighters, and even sneaky thieves. We built police cars, fire trucks, and a jail out of classroom materials—turn-taking, storytelling, and teamwork were all on full display. This kind of role play is such a valuable tool for helping young children develop empathy and express themselves in new and imaginative ways.
Music has filled our classroom as children explored rhythm and melody with instruments. Some even taught themselves to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Mary Had a Little Lamb on the keyboard—amazing! These moments not only build musical skills but also highlight how sound can be a powerful form of emotional expression and connection.
Art Gallery
We brought an art gallery experience right into our room! With special tickets in hand, the children practiced "gallery behaviour" (shhh!) and explored beautiful artworks by a variety of artists. Each child got to place three dot stickers on their favourite pieces, helping them reflect on what they enjoy in art and express their personal tastes.
Songs We're Singing
Here are a few favourites we’ve been enjoying together. Feel free to sing along at home!
A quick reminder: Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up on Monday and Tuesday. Looking forward to connecting with you all and sharing more about your child’s growth and learning.
Thank you, as always, for supporting our little Geckos as they express themselves, explore new ideas, and discover their unique voices.
Warmly,
Penney
