Week One In The Gecko Class
The Geckos First Week!
The atmosphere in the classroom has been filled with such excitement and joy as the children have enjoyed exploring their new classroom, connecting and reconnecting with old friends and new. We are so proud of the way the children have been settling in, learning new classroom routines and the general structure of the day.
Throughout the week, the children have been building their classroom community by playing games such as Monkey Around and Snakes and Ladders. They demonstrated patience as they waited for their turn to play and listened and followed instructions of how to play the game. Some photos from the games can be found here: AM / PM
During Circle Time, we have read stories that have helped to build a Gecko identity and fostered a loving and kind class community, such as 'Go To Sleep Gecko', 'Waiting Is Not Easy', and 'Sophie's Shell'.
The Geckos have shown great interest in visiting the creation station, where they have been making Gecko collages, as well as painting, freely drawing, colouring, and creating various projects.
It's been wonderful to learn about the Geckos' interests and support the development of their independence by helping them prepare the necessary materials they need, helping them navigate their new space and being responsible for tidying up their space. This is an area we will be working on throughout the term.
Voice Levels
The Geckos have been learning about the different voice levels we use at different times throughout their day. Such a quiet voices for quiet reading and loud voices when they are outside in the playground.
We have talked about using our 'Loud and Proud Lion Voice' when we are in the playground and using our 'Silent Snail' voices when it is someone's turn to talk.
At home, you and your Gecko can take a look at the visual below and practice the different voice levels together. I'm sure they would love to share their knowledge about the different voice levels with you 😀

Book Borrowing
Book borrowing will be starting this Wednesday, August 28th. We have collected most of the children's library bags from their school bags.
If you would like your Gecko to borrow a book, please help them pack their library bag into their school bag either tomorrow or on Wednesday. We encourage the children to be responsible by taking ownership of caring for their library bag - bringing it to school, taking it out of their school bag, and remembering to take it home.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could help foster this sense of responsibility at home as well.

P.E Class
P.E will also be starting on Wednesday, August 28th. The children and I will be heading across to Bradbury where we will meet with their P.E teachers; Mr Smith and Mr Maclay. Every week, the children will engage in fun, energetic activities that encourage physical development, cooperation, communication and overall, an enjoyment of exercise.
Please ensure your child wears appropriate, comfortable shoes.

Photo Albums
As the children will be starting the unit 'Who We Are', our class photo album is called Who We Are. Here you can find photos from arrival play, open-play and some class activities. Kindly note, the album will be updated weekly. Some small groups will have their own albums, and you will find the links to these small group albums on this blog.
Have a great week ahead and do not hesitate to get in touch with any questions or concerns you might have!
Ammie, Vicky and Iris
